Introduction:

As a part of our commitment to fostering economic growth, promoting sustainable practices, and enhancing the overall well-being of our citizens, the government of Tamil Nadu is proud to introduce the Food Processing Policy with a range of incentives and subsidies. This policy aims to encourage investment, innovation, and job creation in the food processing sector within the state of Tamil Nadu.

1.  Financial Incentives:

  • Capital Subsidy: The state will provide a capital subsidy on eligible investments in setting up new food processing units or expanding existing ones.
  • Interest Subsidy: Entrepreneurs engaging in food processing activities will be eligible for an interest subsidy on loans taken for establishing or modernizing their units.

2.  Tax Benefits:

  • Goods and Services Tax (GST) Benefits: Food processing units will be eligible for specific GST benefits and exemptions as per the state's policy to reduce the overall tax burden. 
  • Income Tax Exemptions: Eligible food processing enterprises will enjoy income tax exemptions for a specified period, encouraging long-term sustainability and growth.

3.   Infrastructure Support:

  • Industrial Parks and Zones: The state will establish dedicated industrial parks and zones for food processing units, equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure to facilitate smoother operations. 
  • Common Facilities: Shared infrastructure facilities such as cold storage, testing laboratories, and waste management systems will be developed to reduce operational costs for the units.

4.  Skill Development and Training:

  • Subsidized Training Programs: The state will subsidize skill development and training programs for workers in the food processing sector to enhance their capabilities and promote employment. 
  • Collaboration with Educational Institutions: Partnerships with educational institutions will be encouraged to develop specialized courses catering to the needs of the food processing industry.

5.  Sustainability Initiatives:

  • Subsidies for Green Practices: Units adopting eco-friendly practices, renewable energy sources, and sustainable waste management will be eligible for additional subsidies. 
  • Certification Support: The state will assist units in obtaining relevant certifications for sustainable and organic food processing practices.

6.  Market Access and Promotion:

  • Market Linkages: The government will facilitate market linkages for food processing units, connecting them with retailers, export markets, and other distribution channels. 
  • Promotional Campaigns: The state will initiate promotional campaigns to highlight the quality and uniqueness of food products manufactured within Tamil Nadu.

7.  Technology Adoption:

  • Technology Subsidies: Units incorporating advanced technologies in their processes will be eligible for subsidies to promote innovation and efficiency.
  • Research and Development Support: The government will encourage research and development initiatives in the food processing sector by providing financial support for relevant projects.
